In-person Bring Your Own Case Training for State-Level Capital Trial Teams

“I was impressed with this program even from the first session. I would recommend to other teams and future teams I’m on. It’s great to have so many experts work with you on your specific case needs and issues.” Mitigation specialist from Arkansas

“The seminar was a huge benefit to every member of our team.” Co-counsel from Ohio

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), Advancing Real Change (ARC), Inc., the Arizona Capital Representation Project (ACRP), and attorney John Holdridge, are accepting applications for its spring a Bring Your Own Case training program to be held May 18-20 in Durham, North Carolina. This training is offered to capital defense teams working on trial cases at the state level. Teams with capital resentencing cases are eligible and encouraged to attend.

What is a Bring Your Own Case Training (BYOC)?

Teams engage in plenary sessions on foundational topics followed by two-hour brainstorming sessions with another team and rotating facilitators. Facilitators are expert capital litigators, mitigation specialists, investigators, and consulting mental health experts who engage with the teams in thinking through their cases. At the end of the training teams will leave with specific tasks to do in furtherance of their cases and will have built skills that can be applied to capital defense work.

Can I attend without my team?

No. It is essential that as many team members as possible attend and participate.

Sounds great! Anything else?

Yes! After attending the program, participating teams have an opportunity for case-specific, virtual technical support (through in-depth case consultation) with faculty including mental health experts.

How much does this cost?

There is no cost to participate. That’s right this is FREE! In addition, costs for travel, accommodation, and a daily per diem for meals will be provided. We cannot compensate people for their time.

If your team is interested in attending the BYOC, please have one team member complete the brief screening form through this link: www.nacdl.org/capitaldefensetraining/byoc-interest-form
