Virtual Bring Your Own Case Training for State-Level Capital Trial Teams

“I was impressed with this program even from the first session. I would recommend to other teams and future teams I’m on. It’s great to have so many experts work with you on your specific case needs and issues.” Mitigation specialist from Arkansas

“The seminar was a huge benefit to every member of our team.” Co-counsel from Ohio

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), Advancing Real Change (ARC), Inc., the Arizona Capital Representation Project (ACRP), and attorney John Holdridge, invite you to apply to attend a virtual Bring Your Own Case training program to be held November 15-19. This training is offered to capital defense teams working on trial cases at the state level. Teams with resentencing cases are eligible to attend.

What is a Bring Your Own Case Training (BYOC)?

Teams are asked to watch pre-recorded videos as foundational sessions on essential topics. Videos are approximately 30-45 minutes Each day there will be ONE two-hour brainstorming session with two teams who are participating in the training and rotating faculty members. Faculty members are expert capital defenders, mitigation specialists, investigators, and consulting mental health experts who engage with the teams in thinking through their cases. At the end of the week teams will leave with specific tasks to do in furtherance of their cases and will have built skills that can be applied to capital defense work.

Do I have to block out a full 5-day period to attend?

No, the commitment is 2 hours over Zoom each day. Each team member will be expected to have listened/watched the videos in advance of the session but that is self-directed.

 Sounds great! Anything else?

Yes! After attending the program, participating teams will be provided with an opportunity for case-specific, virtual technical support (through in-depth case consultation) with faculty including mental health experts.

 How much does this cost?

There is no cost to participate. That’s right this is FREE!

If you are interested in attending the virtual BYOC, please have one team member complete the brief screening form through this link: www.nacdl.org/capitaldefensetraining/byoc-interest-form
